Background

Champagne Tarlant, handed down from father to son in the art and passion of growing grapes and producing the famous Champagne wines since 1687, is situated close to Epernay on the hillside of the celebrated Marne Valley, on the territory of Oeuilly. There, the Tarlant family still perpetuates the tradition, now successfully in the hands of Jean-Mary Tarlant and his father Georges who elaborate their large range of prodigious Champagnes, especially those of the “nec plus ultra” range such as the Cuvee Louis Brut with its subtleties obtained during its long period in oak barrels.

Winemaking

After being aged 10 years in bottle, the 1998 vintage shows perfect balance and extraordinary smoothness. The elegance of this Prestige Millesime 1998 carries you through the gentle fragrances of summer evenings. If kept several further years, this great vintage will gain even more complexity and fullness.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR • Straw yellow, fine lively mousse.
NOSE • Complex delicate nose, with fresh hints of linden and Mediterranean citrus fruit.
PALATE • Delicate with a background of fresh almonds, tingling with intoxicatingly lively hints.

"The 1998 Extra Brut Prestige (65% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir) offers up ripe pears, roasted nuts and flowers in a fresh, delicate style. The oak has given the wine additional depth in its body; while the blocked malolactic fermentation has preserved freshness, a combination that works especially well here. This energetic, chiseled Champagne possesses terrific persistence and a pure crystalline finish. This bottle was disgorged in November 2008 and dosage was 8 grams per liter. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018. "
