| Background | | The vineyards and winery of Glaymond Wines are located in Seppeltsfield and Marananga of the Barossa Valley, South Australia. Where in the Barossa Valley are Glaymond and Marananga, well you can see Torbreck from the winery, indeed the vineyards back onto them. Just the other side is Greenock Creek vineyards, and a short distance away is the Kalleske Vineyard ... quite some neighbourhood!
The wines reflect this, sharing that same wonderful intensity of the best from this sub region, plus some good 30+year old vineyards help. Damien, the viticulturist and wine maker is absolutely intense and passionate about his vines, and wines, and is making some of the finest and most interesting wines in the Valley.
The saying that great wine is made in the vineyard certainly rings true here, brilliant vineyard management means the wines are made with minimal intervention, little fining or filtering and minimal additions, just that spectacular Barossa fruit coming through!
| Tasting Notes | | Wonderful crimson red colour. A brightly perfumed nose showing flavours of mulberry, blackcurrant and violets. A sensuous full bodied palate with incredible fruit concentration, notes of rose perfume and cedar spice. Tight, fine grained tannins coat the full length of the palate leaving behind a long and persistent finish – a serious wine that needs time and plenty of aeration. Try with herb roasted lamb.
| Maturation | | 19 months oak maturation using Hogsheads, 30% new French, 70% 2yr old French
| Reviews | | Rating: 90+ - Jay Miller, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (2007 vintage) "The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Asif is purple/black in color. Plum, blackberry, and licorice aromas are followed by a firm, structured wine which is slightly sinewy but well balanced. Given another 4-6 years of cellaring it should fill out nicely. "
Rating: 93 points - Robert Parker, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (2006 vintage) "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon ASIF was aged for 23 month in 40% new French oak hogsheads. It is a glass-coating purple/black color with a brooding bouquet including notes of toast, pencil lead, black currant, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, powerful, and well-balanced, this plush Cabernet will evolve for 4-6 years and drink well from 2013 to 2025."
